Not only is the cellar useful in preserving wine, it is also a striking addition to the decor of the home, and welcoming to visitors. The original state of this kitchen did not reflect the ideals of the homeowners uniquely retro-modern furnishings and accessories in the rest of the house. The homeowners wanted to update the kitchen by opening the space to the family keeping room, removing the overhead soffits, and expanding the window sizes; all while keeping the space cozy and relaxed with a flair for the dramatic. Built in the 1940s, this cottage had an incredible amount of character and personality but was not conducive to the way we live today. The rooms were small and did not flow well into one another.
